Dragonfly Webs' namesake is a Belgian Draft filly.

Dragonfly was born on a Canadian pmu* farm on May 10, 2005. I met her through a website and photographs. Today she is three years old and she rules the pasture with her playfulness and calm bearing. She's a true and gentle friend to everyone who looks for friendship on green grass.

Dragonfly came to me by chance. By chance, I surfed upon a website for an organization who arranged the transportation of foals born on Canadian pmu* farms, and their placement into permanent homes instead of letting them be sold for slaughter.

Through the same website, at the same time, I met Sophie, a six year-old Belgian mare who had been kept pregnant for the pmu industry. The Canadian farm had lost its contract (many of the farms are losing their pharmaceutical contracts due to public education and outcry). She had nowhere to go . Without training and with severe trust issues, she was destined for slaughter. She arrived here on July 7, 2005 and has been a long term project in patience and mutual respect. Despite her early hardships, she is the mildest mannered horse in the pasture.

Dragonfly arrived home in November of 2005. I wasn't looking for a horse, let alone two of them. Surfing the world wide web one day saved the lives of  these two beautiful girls. Like magic, the world wide web brought me out of a chain of wrong actions to a definitive right action - a world of difference.

Dragonfly Webs is about taking a chance to make a difference in the world. Web working allows me to live the simple life I've chosen in an off -grid cabin running on 100% solar electricity. It is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, animals and human.

*pmu = pregnant mare urine is used for hormone replacement therapy, prremarin is an example of such a drug
